Runner Beanz

Runner Beanz activity sessions have been developed considering the key focus areas of agility, balance and co-ordination through pulse-raising, co-ordination, balance and the teaching of specific sport related skills. The activity programmes help to develop a child’s social, physical and language skills, boosting their confidence and self-esteem.

The sessions are focussed on a different sport/skill each session. For example, they may learn how to throw and catch, bounce balls, score a goal in football etc. The children will also have the opportunity for some free play with small equipment and the large wall apparatus, benches, tables etc.

The structure of the session is the same each week. We start with some beanz warm ups and a pulse raising activity game, such as ‘sheep tig’ or the ‘hat game’!

The children are put into 3 groups for the activities (they can choose who to play with). They then rotate through 3 different activities, while music plays.

For example…. If the focus was throwing/aiming

After the warm up game we split into 3 groups for the activities…

Free play with hoops, balls, skipping ropes, goals, beanbags etc

Free play/guided activities on the large apparatus/ climbing/ropes/ benches and tables, can you swing on the rope? Balance walking backwards along the bench? Can you jump from the table to the mat?

Sports skill focus area… aiming/throwing. The children will be shown the technique for overarm throwing/aiming, (including stance and pointing with other hand at where they are aiming etc) Activities are set up where the children can practise these skills, eg throwing beanbags into hoops, throwing to a friend, and aiming at a 3D velcro target.

The children rotate through the groups so that everyone has the opportunity to play on all of the activities. Upbeat music is played throughout the session.

We end the session by reflecting on what we have enjoyed/ learnt/ tried for the first time.

Finally, children are then given their famous Runner Beanz stamp !

Runner Beanz sessions run on Mondays (Yr 2 only), 3.20pm-4.30pm.

Jumping Beanz

Jumping Beanz activity sessions have been developed considering the key focus areas of agility, balance and co-ordination through pulse-raising, co-ordination, balance and role-play/ imaginative games and activities. The activity programmes help to develop a child’s social, physical and language skills, boosting their confidence and self-esteem.
The sessions are thematic, with activities linked to a different theme each week, eg Jungle, Space, Superheroes and Circus. The children will also have the opportunity for some free play with small equipment and the large wall apparatus, benches, tables etc.

The structure of the session is the same each week. We start with the Jumping Beanz action song and some beanz warm ups! The children are put into 3 groups for the activities (they can choose who to play with). They then rotate through 3 different activities. While themed music plays.

For example…. If the theme is Circus….

We would start with some circus actions , eg clown walks, tight rope walker And then split into 3 groups for the activities…
Free play with hoops, balls, skipping ropes, goals, beanbags etc
Free play/guided activities on the large apparatus/ climbing/ropes/ benches and tables, can you move like an acrobat? Hang from the rope? Can you jump like a gymnast? Circus area… dressing up in clown costumes, balls, beanbags and scarves for juggling, ribbons for dancing etc

The children rotate through the groups so that everyone has the opportunity to play on all of the activities. ‘Circus music’ is played throughout the session. We end the session by reflecting on what we have enjoyed/ learnt/ tried for the first time.

Finally, children are then given their famous Jumping Beanz stamp !

Jumping Beanz sessions run on Wednesdays (Reception only), 3.00pm-4.30pm.
Jumping Beanz sessions run on Thursdays (Yr 1 only), 3.10pm-4.30pm.

Crafty Beanz

Unfortunately, due to Covid restrictions, Crafty Beanz is not currently running!

Crafty Beanz activity sessions have been developed considering the key focus areas of creativity, imagination and problem solving. The activity programme helps to develop a child’s social, physical and language skills, boosting their confidence and self-esteem. The sessions are calm and focussed, but also lots of fun and supportive. The children happily sit chatting, helping each other if needed, whilst creating their own crafty creation to take home each week. We play upbeat or mindful music dependant upon the children’s choice.

The sessions are very collaborative, with children sharing ideas and helping each other if required and suggesting items that they would like to make in future sessions. The process of the crafting is of the utmost importance, but the children are always delighted when they have a final product of which they can be proud!

We have a theme for the activities; with each theme having 3 or 4 sessions, but the children will make and bring home a different creation each week! Themes include Under the Sea, Space, Spring, Seaside, Transport, Gardens and Christmas.

For example during the Under The Sea theme, the children created a paper plate jellyfish, a ribbon woven rainbow fish, a pompom pufferfish and a sock shark puppet !

The structure of the session is the same each week. I show the children what they will be making and guide them through what equipment/materials they will need and some basic instructions.

The children then begin to create; there are always examples to follow and help available for children who are less sure, whilst those who are more confident can be imaginative and independent.

During the session, we have the opportunity to go outside onto the playground for some fresh air and a run around.

Crafty Beanz sessions run on Wednesdays, 3.15pm-4.45pm.

One to One Online tutoring

1:1 Online Tutoring with Debbie May

I am pleased to announce that I am now offering online tutoring sessions to children in KS1 and KS2.

I have nearly 30 years teaching experience (B.Ed Hons) from R to Year 7 , including class, small group and 1:1 teaching. I am aware that a number of parents are concerned that their children are 'falling behind' or need further academic stimulation at this very tricky time. And that many of you are juggling lots of hats whilst trying to work and homeschool at the same time!
If you are struggling to get your children to complete the tasks set by the school, feel that they would benefit from some extra tuition in a specific curriculum area, want to get them re-engaged with learning or just want to know that they are safe, occupied, engaged and learning while you are working, then do please contact me !

The cost of this tutoring is only £25 per session, which will include my preparation time and a 55 min online live tutor session with your child. I will also consider small group/paired teaching. For example, if you have 2 children or would like your child to join a small group of up to 4 students (that you put together with other parents/friends) then do contact me in order to discuss what we can arrange.
I will be available from July 2020, throughout the School Summer Holiday and on into September.

Please be advised that I am fully up to date regarding safeguarding issues and procedures will be put in place to protect your child and myself.
